Located in the northeastern area of the Mediterranean sea, the island of Cyprus is the third largest within the Med., with a population of around 700,000 - a large proportion of which remains unpopulated.

Since ancient times, the island has been celebrated for its year-round warmth, and its 10,000 year recorded history is peppered with the likes of Alexander the Great and Cleopatra staking their claim. Travellers throughout history came here in order to pay tribute to Aphrodite - the mythological god of love and beauty - fitting for an island of such magnificent views and the kindness of the people.

People

The majority of the population is Greek Cypriot, and they follow the Christian Orthodox religion. The main language spoken is Greek but English is widely spoken, along with German, in the tourist areas.

Climate

Cyprus enjoys some of the best climate the Mediterranean can offer, with approximately 340 days of sunshine per year.
Paphos has the finest climate on the island with cooler summers and short mild winters.

Living

Due to the relaxed aspect of life, Cyprus enjoys a very low Crime Rate at around one tenth of the European average - serious crime is virtually unheard of and theft is relatively rare.

Investing in property means that you can enjoy personal security without the added expense of turning your home into a fortress.

Cost of living is around 1/3 to 2/3 of most of Europe, and recent international polls indicated that Cyprus towns have the lowest cost of living within a developed nation.

Banking

The unit of currency is the Cyprus pound. Foreign currency and local deposit accounts can be opened very easily by Non-Cypriot citizens.

Banking is akin to British standards, well developed and equipped with up-to-date technologies. Also, many International banks have branches throughout the island, with all major credit cards, widely accepted.

Medicine

Cyprus has a very high standard of medical services. Hospitals, private clinics and medical centres are equipped with the latest facilities. The latest technology and operating techniques are standard, with heart bypass surgery and kidney transplantation now routine in hospitals.

Doctors and dentists, both specialists and general practitioners, are available everywhere and their fees are quite low compared to European standards. Low cost international private medical insurance is available for non-Cypriot people living in Cyprus.
